big and little things i would like to do in 2012

  • Travel somewhere new with Rob (we’ve never taken a “real” trip together).
  • Run 1 mile without dying/throwing up.
  • Get married…or, more specifically, actually put some effort into wedding planning.
  • Learn at least one survival skill that will make me useful in a post-apocalyptic world JUST IN CASE.
  • Go 30 consecutive days without drinking Diet Coke (starting today?)
  • Get in a better place financially. Figure out a way to bring in more income, and stop living paycheck to paycheck (with a panicky double-digit number in the bank at the end of each pay period).
  • On that note, I’d like to build an emergency fund. Knowing I have some money saved up in case things go wrong (car trouble, job trouble, health trouble, etc) would go a long way toward giving me peace of mind.
  • Make some new friends. It feels like our friend circle in Lexington has dwindled down as people have moved away/grown apart and it would be nice to establish some new relationships and/or reconnect older friends who have drifted away.

Mostly this year I just want to focus. Focus on better health and treating myself well, focus on being the best partner/friend/family member that I’m capable of being, focus on building skills that will help me advance my career, focus on setting goals and then actually achieving them.

I feel like I start out with such good intentions and then just get distracted with the little stuff, or with inconsequential stuff, or just plain lose focus and never finish what I start. I’m not saying there’s not a time or place for mindless television or weekend afternoons spent reading in the bathtub, but I can’t help but think I could accomplish so much more if I just spent more time focusing my time and energy on what’s important and what will actually make a difference in my life.
